Footballers of the future in training at Under 7s tournament

By Ross Gazette sports reporter in Football

Ross-on-Wye Juniors currently have a thriving under 7s section. Whilst some of the boys were playing a year up for the under 8s in a futsal tournament at Point Four, the less experienced boys in this age group were split into two teams to represent the club in an under 7 futsal team at Hereford Academy.

The under 7s were split into a Colts and a Royal team. The Colts, managed by Ben and George, did themselves proud in a tough group and came out with two wins and a draw, under the captaincy of Tom. Joel, Jack and Alfie joined Tom on the scoresheet, Ty and Exley were ace shot stoppers in goal, Callum and Josh all did the club proud with tenacious tackles and excellent blocks.

The Royals, managed by Nicole, competed admirably against two more experienced teams and then stepped up in their last two games to win one and draw one. Bobby finished top scorer, Euan and Josh were great in goal too. Billy, Ollie, Harry, James and Zac were all workhorses who battled hard throughout.

The 16 boys from Ross, representing nine different local primary schools, did the club credit. The majority of these were playing in their first tournament and had to try hard to remember to concentrate during each game. Outside the occasional spontaneous dance routine, air guitar or excessive knee sliding, their efforts and attitude could not be faulted and all boys were magnificent.

The club would like to thank The Adam Stansfield Foundation for their continued support.
