Ross RFC 2nds - 36: Old Richians 2nds - 39

Ross 2nds home league fixture was cancelled as their opposition could not field a side, instead Ross entertained Old Richians 2nds in what turned out to be a thrilling game of end to end action.

Ross got their noses in front on 10 minutes through No 8 TC Leach, but Richians responded with two tries. Ross again went ahead after winger, and stand in captain, Joe Muldowney, crashed over. And so the day was set with the scoring swinging from one team to the other.

Pack leader, Dan Gould, was on the end of a succession of drives to score under the up-rights with Paul Wooding converting. He got his second moments later, but still the Richians came back at Ross and in fact took the lead yet again.

Ross got the ball through hands late in the first half and Paul Wooding meet TC Leach’s pass at pace and he went over in the corner.

The second half could have seen the Ross team collapse with tired legs playing a part, but the action still didn’t let up. Ross’ second row pairing of Henry Tilling and James Maisey were a constant thorn in the Richians’ side, with the latter scoring the pick of the tries for Ross, carrying the ball and breaking tackles.

This had put Ross ahead with 10 minutes to play, but Richians had the final word, scoring out wide.

There was no deserved loser and in fact it was rugby that was the winner on the day. The Drop Inn man of the match was James Maisey.

This week Ross are at home to Quedgley Harlequins in the league, 2.30pm KO.
