Three couples who say that sharing the same healthy foods has enabled them to lose a combined weight of over 12 stone without ever feeling hungry have helped to launch a month-long food festival in Ross-on-Wye.
The Ross-on-Wye Slimming World groups celebrated the start of Free Food February, which is named after the healthy ‘Free Foods’ it’s members can enjoy without weighing, counting or measuring when losing weight on Slimming World’s Food Optimising eating plan. And the launch party saw Roz and Rob Lewis, Jack and Vicky Baker, and Ally Ayrton plus Sam Whittall voted by their friends in group as the sessions’ Couples of the Year 2017.
To celebrate, members of the groups, which are held every Monday and Tuesday at the Larruperz Centre, created delicious feasts by bringing along dishes made entirely from ‘Free Foods’, which include fruit and veg, pasta, rice, potatoes, lean meat, fish, eggs and more, showing that Slimming World members never need to suffer the hunger pangs that usually see people throwing in the towel on other weight-loss plans. They’ll also use #FreeFoodFeb when sharing their delicious dishes on social media.
Rob Lewis, who has lost 4st 6lbs, says: "When we first joined Slimming World we couldn’t believe how much food we could eat and still lose weight. Making small changes to the way we cooked our meals meant we could still enjoy all of our favourite meals like Ginger and Prawn fried rice. We love sharing our new recipes with family and friends – they taste so good and people can never believe we can eat all the food we do and lose weight".
Vicky Baker is 1st 1lbs lighter since joining Slimming World, and says: "We’re lucky because as well as the support we had from each other, the rest of the group have also been there for us. Every week in our group we swap recipes and if we’ve ever struggled there has always been someone ready to suggest a new idea or remind us why we shouldn’t give up. I don’t think we could have achieved all we have without the support of our Consultant and the rest of the Ross-on-Wye group."
Ally Ayrton lost just over 1 stone during January and says that she and her partner Sam love cooking and trying out new recipes for all the family and to celebrate their success they made a yummy cake - Slimming World style of course.
Debra Maloney, who runs some of the Larruperz Centre Slimming World groups, says: "all the couples and members are living proof that slimmers are more successful when they lose weight together with support and motivation from others along their journey. Seeing their weight come down week after week has been a joy." Fellow consultant Sue Holdcroft adds "They’re a real inspiration to the groups, including me - I hope they’ll inspire everyone in Ross-on-Wye area too."
