Four Ross-on-Wye rowing crews to represent West Midlands at national event

The Junior Squad at Ross Rowing Club took travelled to Worcester Rowing Club last weekend to take part in trials to represent the West Midlands region at the Junior Inter-regional Regatta which is held at Holme Pierrepont Nottingham.

The rowers from Ross-on-Wye did not disappoint and will represent the West Midlands with no less than four crews at the national event in April.

The first crew to qualify was the WJ15 double of Lara Banks-Martin and Daisy Phillips, who continue a hugely impressive run of form and qualified with a bit to spare over the nine other crews in this category, winning by a margin of 12 seconds.

Next to qualify was the J14 double scull of Cameron Roberts and Ben Clatworthy, who won by an even bigger margin of 17 seconds. This pair only started rowing within the last 12 months and have made staggering progress in that short time.

The third Ross-on-Wye rower to qualify was Elsa Sykes, again continuing a fine run of form in her WJ16 single scull.

Lastly, four Ross rowers (Elsa, Ella Eagle-Davies, Beth Morris and Lydia Russell) teamed up with rowers from Birmingham and Worcester to qualify in a composite WJ16 eight, to complete an enormously successful day for the club’s juniors.
