An all Ross-on-Wye Girls final at Birmingham City Ladies Sister Club Tournament

By Ross Gazette sports reporter in Football

Ross Juniors Under 10 girls travelled to Solihull last Tuesday for the second Birmingham City Ladies Sister Club Tournament. Ross fielded two teams, Ross A and Ross B, against ten teams from over the West Midlands.

The A team cruised to a semi-final clash with Shifnal Europeans, with four wins out of four in their group matches. Not to be outdone, Ross B, in their group, completed the same feat, with both sides not conceding a goal.

In the first semi, Ross A eased past Shifnal 3-0 with some good passing and work ethic. They then watched their friends from Ross B beat Solihull girls 2-0 to set an all Ross final.

With girls’ football on the rise with increasing participation levels it is some achievement for Ross-on-Wye to produce the two finalists in a major girls football tournament in Birmingham.

The final was played in good spirit with the A team coming out 3-0 winners.

Other clubs present commented on the excellent football played by both Ross teams, alongside great fair play. The referee in the final told the girls he wished his men’s team had their communication skills.

Both sides went up to collect the trophy and medals from Birmingham Captain, Kerys Harrop and vice captain, Emily Westwood.
