Ross U15 Cricketers had a tough opening game of the season in the gloom of Monday, May 15th, at night in Wormelow.
The hosts only had eight players available, but some very fast and accurate bowling restricted Ross to just 72 from the allotted 20 overs. Seven of the eight Ross batsmen to fall were clean bowled, with William Thomas taking three wickets for eleven runs.
Only Adam Davies, Alastair Cook and Alexander Springer managed double figures, Alex being the only Ross player to find the boundary.
Jasper Lindley-Adams dominated the Wormelow innings scoring 49 before being well caught by Robbie Nixon from the bowling of Ross captain George Aubrey. Jasper played some fine strokes, including seven fours.
Ross chipped wickets away at the other end. Chloe Tingle got two wickets in her opening over withCameron Hill and Robbie Nixon also contributing, but the total was always too low to defend.
Ben Fletcher and Aekudom Abbott fielded particularly well, as Ross made Wormelow work hard for the victory.
Ross coach Clive Jones praised the opposition bowling and Lindley-Adams’ fine knock, but was also encouraged by Ross’ resistance in the field.
A week later, Ross enjoyed a handsome victory over Eastnor, who were fielding a young side. Ross posted 217 runs with three players, Alastair Cook, Robbie Nixon and Alex Springer all retiring on 50. Chloe Tingle (2-2-0-3) and Cameron Hill took three wickets each as the home side were bowled out for 48.
Some particularly good catches were held by Ethan Lerego, Adam Davies and George Aubrey, who gave U15 bowling debuts to Aekudom and Ben.
On Monday, June 5th, Ross host Brockhampton, for what should be an exciting game - so all are welcome to the club for a 6pm start.
