Ross Juniors Under 12 girls recently celebrated the end of their football season with a friendly match with some girls from Tupsley FC.
7Ross beat Tupsley on penalties in the Shield Final at Edgar Street in May, but the girls put aside their rivalry to play in mixed teams in a 9v9 training match, which fostered a fun, relaxed atmosphere, as well as some good football.
The Ross girls have enjoyed another fantastic season, finishing worthy runners up in Herefordshire’s Under 12 league. This achievement is all the more impressive given that 13 of Ross’ 17 players are actually Under 11 girls playing in a league of older teams.
Ross has fielded a mixture of long-serving and inexperienced girls this season, against suitable opposition, in an attempt to cater for the incredible popularity of girls football at this age group in the town.
The new Under 12s have progressed well in their first season, and the more experienced players in the group have once again proved themselves to be one of the best teams in the region.
The girls recently earned a credible 2-2 draw against an academy team at Barnet FC, in London, ahead of the Women’s FA Cup Final, and competed in the Welsh FA’s Football Festival prior to the Women’s Champions League Final in Cardiff last week.
The club is very grateful to Opal Financial Management for their sponsorship, and Stuart Tucker for facilitating the team’s new kit, at the beginning of the season.
The girls, and their parents, are also very grateful to Matt Walker for his invaluable help in coaching the girls this season.
