A competitive game in Bewdley

By Ross Gazette sports reporter in Racquet Sports

THE Goodrich Ladies travelled to Bewdley on Sunday, June 11th to play their fifth match of the Summer season.

Bewdley, who have great strength in depth, fielding five Ladies teams in the H & W League, proved too strong for Goodrich however. The Goodrich first pair of Bonnie Palmer and Wendy Jenkins produced a very fine performance to win against the Bewdley second pair in two straight sets, meaning the ladies came away with two more points to add to their total.

The remaining pairs of Jill Brown, Kim Martin and Lesley Winters and Kirsten Ainsworth battled hard but lost their rubbers in straight sets. Home advantage definitely played its part in the first round as the Goodrich ladies tried to come to terms with the high bouncing clay courts which were completely different to their sand dressed carpet courts! The second rounds proved a lot more competitive.

Their next match is in the evening on Thursday, June 15th away to Manor Park ’B’.

A Summertime Slam, a free event, will be held at Goodrich Tennis Club on Sunday, June 25th from 2pm onwards, open to non members - adults and children, whatever your standard.
