Six medals for John Kyrle High School athletes

By Ross Gazette sports reporter in Youth Sport

John Kyrle’s athletes were back in action last weekend at the Hereford and Worcester schools’ athletics championships held at Nunnery Wood, Worcester. With well over 500 athletes from eight different districts competing, this event saw our athletes compete against the best in the county.

The athletes won six medals overall and Emily Jarvis took pride of place. Having claimed top spot at the district trials in May, Emily in Year 9 not only claimed a gold medal in the Junior Girls’ Shot Put County final but she also broke the school record which had stood since 2008 with a throw of 9m 2cms.

Briony Bishop also ran strongly and gained a medal, finishing in second place in the Inter-Girls’ 3000m.

Bronze medals were won in the Junior Girls’ discus by Carys Lowley, Katrina Bennett in the Junior Girls’ 800m, Indiana Sharp in the Junior Girls’ javelin and Adam Davies in the Junior Boys’ 80m Hurdles.

Both Emily and Briony will now go on to represent the County at the Mason Trophy next weekend at the Alexander Stadium, Birmingham and the school wishes them both the best of luck.
