Angela Sonn, 56, from Ross-on-Wye, will be competing in the European Masters’ Athletics Championships Stadia (EMACS) next month, in Aarhus, Denmark.

This competition will mark Angela’s first time competing abroad, although she has taken part in countless athletics tournaments in the UK.

At the weekend, Angela competed in the British Masters’ Championships at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham. She won three medals; one gold, for the 200m sprint, and two silver, for 100m and 400m. In all three races, Angela beat her personal best times.

Angela had always enjoyed athletics in school, but she says that she became interested in the sport approximately eight years ago. She became a member of the Forest of Dean Athletics Club, the Worcester Athletics Club and Newent Runners.

She trains two to three times each week at Worcester, and during the summer she may compete in various competitions twice a week.

Next year, Angela hopes to take part in the World Masters Athletics Championships, which take place in Malaga.
