The annual Summer Games, run by the Hereford and Worcestershire Sports Partnership, was held last week in sweltering conditions at Hereford Leisure Centre.
As well as contending with the opposition, the John Kyrle Year Nine rounders team also coped admirably with the heat.
The team started with a close game against Whitecross 1, losing by just one rounder, but they bounced back to comfortably defeat Kingstone with a wonderful display of fielding. This took them into the quarter finals where they met a strong John Masefield team where competent batting saw John Kyrle move into the Plate competition.
At this stage of the competition, the team met Earl Mortimer College, who they beat by six and a half rounders to take them into the final against Wigmore School.
In an exceptionally tight final game, it came down to the wire and was left to Phoebe Barber to seal the win, scoring two fantastic rounders in the last four balls to take victory by just one rounder.
