By Ross Gazette sports reporter in Cricket

Wormelow 1st XI made the trip to Lye 1st XI hoping to build on their recent good results. Having driven through some heavy rain on the way to Lye it was no surprise that Wormelow were invited to bat first after losing the toss.

As expected batting proved to be a real challenge with only Richard Stafford (32), George Lancaster (18) and Joe Snow (12) reaching double figures. The visitors all out for 136 in the 43rd over, the total being swelled by 25 extras.

After further rain delays, Lye were set a revised target of 116 from 32 overs. Wormelow skipper, Tom Cutler, led from the front as he delivered a hostile 7 over burst to pick up the fine figures of 4-18. With good support from fellow bowlers Ali Main (2-19), Joe Snow (2-4) and Elliott Williams (1-22) the home side were bundled out for just 82 in the 24th over. The other wicket to fall was down to a sensational direct hit run out from Jasper Linley-Adams. Wormelow winning by 34 runs has seen them climb to sixth in the league table.
