A man was arrested following an attempted robbery in Cinderford yesterday, Thursday, January 2nd.

The man was arrested shortly after 4.30pm at the Co-op store in Dockham Road where it was reported that he was in possession of an imitation firearm.

Officers recovered an air pistol from the scene. The man, who is in his fifties, remains in police custody.

A spokesperson for Gloucestershire Constabulary said: "No-one was injured and nothing was stolen.

"We would like to thank the off duty officer and member of the public who assisted in apprehending the man."
