A paramedic officer from West Midlands Ambulance Service was first to reach a woman who had a suspected fractured ankle at Symonds Yat.

A spokesperson for the WMAS said: "The woman, in her 40s, had been running along the Wye Valley Walk when she went over on her ankle, on Sunday, April 29th."

The Ambulance Service was called at 3.10pm and an ambulance and a paramedic officer were dispatched to attend. The first vehicle could not get near enough to the patient, who was about 12 minutes from the ferry, so the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) vehicle was also dispatched. However, the spokesperson added that the paramedic, who had a good local knowledge of the area, was able to administer pain relief. The HART vehicle was then used to transport the patient to the ambulance which then took her to Hereford Hospital.
