An investigation into the cause of the fire at the Haigh Industrial Estate will start later today, Thursday, February 4th.

Three fire engines and a water carrier remain at the scene including firecrews from Ross-on-Wye.

The fire which started yesterday evening tore through Aqua-Heat and The Safety Shack which have both been destroyed by the fire.

Neighbouring businesses are still operating but many of the traders expressed their horror and shock at what had happened.

Several plumbers who had come to collect supplies told the Ross Gazette that this will impact not just on their businesses but also on other suppliers throughout the county.

Group Commander George Marshall told the Ross Gazette: “Upon arrival, the crews were faced with a severe fire involving exploding propane gas canisters. The fire was then tackled and brought under control using jets, compressed air foam and an aerial ladder platform.”

He continued: “The fire was extinguished at approximately 03:12 this morning and crews have since remained on the scene for damping down. The excellent team work of all those involved ensured that the fire was put out quickly and safely.”

As well as firefighters, an Environmental Protection Unit, the water board, specialist hazardous materials officers, police and ambulance crews were also in attendance.

An officer at the scene explained that the firecrews had not been able to gain access to the interior of the building until the morning as it was too unstable and small pockets of fire could still be seen burning.
