Two brand new litter bins at the Rope Walk were ruined when they were set alight in the early hours of Sunday morning, August 7th.

Ross-on-Wye Town Council is responsible for the open space at the Rope Walk where the bins are situated, as well as for the bins themselves. They were informed that someone getting up early for work smelled smoke and called the fire service.

A crew from Ross responded to the incident at approximately 5.02am on Sunday morning. The incident involved rubbish which had been set alight in three separate locations and the fire was extinguished using a backpack sprayer.

A spokesperson for Ross Town Council told the Ross Gazette said that as well as the bins, the grass around them had been burnt. She said that it is very disheartening when so much good work has been done around the town recently, by the council and by volunteers, including the Railway Museum Garden.

They said that the whole area was starting to look really cared for so it was frustrating that this happened.

Anyone with any information should call the police on 101 or the Town Council.
