The talented firefighters from Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS) who recently demonstrated their lifesaving skills in the Luxembourg National Rescue Challenge will now go onto compete in the World rescue Challenge later this month.
The local HWFRS team beat off competition from across Europe as they competed in a range of challenging rescue scenarios, and were placed as first overall International Extrication Team, also winning Best Incident Commander, Best Medic and Best Technical.
The competition, which took place in Luxembourg from June 2nd and 3rd, is renowned for pushing the boundaries with creative and complex scenarios that are designed to challenge the competitors. This year, the event involved a 20 minute scenario that involved a casualty in a car that had been forced inside a van by a tractor. Teams were tasked with dealing with the scenario and treating the casualty.
Chief Fire Officer Nathan Travis said: “Competitions such as these allow our firefighters to further hone their skills and share best practice, which then enables us to deliver the best lifesaving services we can to the public and apply lessons learnt on the roads in Herefordshire and Worcestershire.
“This is another fantastic result for the Service and once again the extrication team have shown that HWFRS have some of the best rescue skills in the world.”
