Investigating officers from West Mercia Police are appealing for witnesses to a fatal collision near Ross-on-Wye to come forward.
A red Yamaha motorbike was travelling on the A40 shortly after 8pm on Thursday, September 27th. After passing the turning for Whitchurch village and approaching Symonds Yat services, it is understood to have been in collision with a pedestrian.
The motorcyclist, a man in his 20s who has been named locally as Rob Boyd, and the pedestrian, a man in his 30s, named locally as Tom Wheeler, were both pronounced deceased at the scene.
The road was initially closed while emergency services dealt with the incident but it has since reopened.
Both the motorist and the pedestrian’s next of kin have been informed and a file will be prepared for the coroner in due course.
Two ambulances and a paramedic officer were sent to the scene. A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival, crews found a motorcyclist who had suffered very serious injuries. Unfortunately, there was nothing that could be done and he was confirmed dead at the scene.“A short distance away a second man was found, and again, sadly, nothing could be done to help him and he was also confirmed dead at the scene.”Officers are keen to speak with anyone who saw the incident, was in the area at the time, or has dashcam footage of the collision.
Anyone with information is asked to call West Mercia Police on 101 quoting incident number 700S of 27 September.Tributes have been paid to both men on social media.
