Members of the public had their opportunity to put questions to West Mercia’s Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion at the Larruperz Centre on Wednesday, January 8th.

The question and answer surgery was just one of many West Mercia Police take part in, to engage with more rural communities and give people an opportunity to have their say on issues in their area. Mayor Jane Roberts and Councillor Chris Bartrum were also present offering their support and guidance.

Police and Crime Commissioner, John Campion, was pleased with how the event went.

Mr Campion: “The surgery has been a real success, it is always good to hear from members of the public and is very important they have the opportunity to have their say on local policing.

“Today we have had people come forward to talk about incidents including anti-social behaviour, vandalism as well as other important issues. In my role it is important that I hear these concerns, take them forward and communicate with other police officers so we can help make our communities safer and happier places to live.”

One member of the public came to the Larruperz centre with concerns about drug-taking in Brampton.

They said: “Drugs are rife in my area unfortunately, I have seen drug-dealing taking place on the streets just outside my house. These people are tearing families apart, ruining lives and I feel I had to come down here because I believe swift action is needed.’’

“Having now spoken to John I am satisfied that the issue will be addressed. In the past I’ve had problems trying to communicate with the police about it so these surgeries are definitely worthwhile.”

West Mercia Police will next be hosting a live question and answer session taking place on Monday, January 20th from 7pm, which will be streamed live on the Police and Crime Commissioner’s Facebook page (@WestMerciaPCC).

There will be an opportunity to submit questions in advance, or live during the broadcast. The Commissioner and his Deputy Tracey Onslow will put the questions to West Mercia Police Chief Constable Anthony Bangham, and new Deputy Chief Constable Julian Moss.

Questions can be submitted in advance via a Facebook comment or private message, or via email to [email protected].
