West Mercia Police are investigating to determine whether a fire at an agricultural barn was started intentionally.
The emergency services were called to Madley on Wednesday, December 4th at 11.13pm.
At this time a barn, containing more than 800 tonnes of straw and hay, was set alight.A spokesperson from West Mercia Police confirmed: "No injuries were reported but investigations into the fire are currently ongoing and officers are keeping are open mind as to the cause, but it is believed it may have been started deliberately."A spokesperson from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service told the Ross Gazette that fire crews are still at the scene this morning (Friday, January 6th). She said: "The incident is still ongoing with the remaining bales of hay burning under a controlled manner in the barn structure."At the time of the main event, 40 firefighters attended from various crews including: Hereford, Eardisley, Leominster, Fownhope, Ewyas Harold, Bromyard, and Peterchurch.The barn was found to be well alight and firefighters sectored the incident. Two jets were augmented from the hydrant, and onsite machinery was used to remove unaffected hay bales. Police enquiries are on-going, and officers would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area at the time.
