A crew from Ross-on-Wye Fire Station was called to help at an incident this morning, Thursday, June 2nd in Hereford.
They had responded to reports of a person in the River Wye but the elderly man had been rescued prior to their arrival by West Midlands Ambulance Service after being spotted in the water by passers-by.
The Ambulance Service was called to the river by the rugby pitch in Hereford at 9.15am, two ambulances and a paramedic area support officer attended.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “The elderly man was near to a jetty and passers-by were trying to get him out of the water when ambulance staff arrived. The ambulance crews managed to pull the man out of the water. The man was unconscious and hypothermic and was given immediate treatment on scene before being taken on blue lights to Hereford County Hospital for further care.”
