A compressed air foam appliance from Ross-on-Wye was among the emergency services called to a severe house fire at a detached property in Eaton Bishop, Herefordshire on Bank Holiday Monday.

At approximately 10:55pm on Monday, May 30th Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue (HWFRS) was called to reports of a fire.

Four fire engines attended the incident along with a water carrier from Leominster, a compressed air foam appliance from Ross-on-Wye and an aerial ladder platform from Hereford. Police and ambulance staff were also in attendance.

Group Commander George Marshall said: “Upon arrival the fire crews were faced with a severe house fire, which initially started in the garage and rapidly spread to the rest of the house. Firefighters tackled the fire throughout the night using hose reel jets and compressed air foam.”

He added: “Thankfully the occupants were able to safely evacuate the property prior to our arrival and were given precautionary checks by paramedics at the scene.

“Incidents such as this highlight the importance of having an escape plan and working smoke alarms.”

An investigation into the cause of the fire is currently underway.
