A 61-year-old cyclist from Ross-on-Wye was taken into hospital, after he was involved in a road traffic collision on the A40 Golden Valley bypass in Gloucestershire, and the emergency services believed he had sustained potentially life-threatening injuries.

A silver Vauxhall Astra collided with a bike shortly before 7.30am on Friday, August 26th. This happened on the A40, heading from Gloucester to Cheltenham, between the Elmbridge Court roundabout and the exit for junction 11 of the M5.

The rider of the bike, a 61-year-old man from Ross-on-Wye, was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol by ambulance, and it was believed with serious injuries.

A section of the Cheltenham bound carriageway of the A40 Golden Valley bypass was closed for several hours, until 11.50am, following the serious collision, while a full collision investigation took place.

When the cyclist arrived in hospital his injuries were reassessed. He had suffered a head injury and neck fracture, but neither was considered life threatening by the Southmead Hospital staff.

The driver of the car was a 21-year-old Gloucester man and he was uninjured.
