Firefighters based in Ross-on-Wye have left Herefordshire and are on their way to take part in the World Championships in Brazil

The crew has won many competitions on their way to this event, the pinnacle of firefighting competitions, which demonstrates the outstanding performance the team can call on in their frequent call-outs.

In May the crew, which included Adrian Phillips, Dan Gray, Pat Murphy and Matthew Richardson brought home the trophy for Best Extrication Team from the Irish National Challenge.

Most of the crews taking part in the competitions are full-time firefighters but members from Ross are all retained and Dan Gray told the Ross Gazette:?“Rescue Championships are a big part of the fire service and it is very prestigious to be part of a winning team.”

He added that training for the competitions helps them to advance their technical rescue skills.
