Three men were caught on CCTV breaking into a property and a vehicle in Gorsely during the early hours of the morning on Tuesday, May 10th, at approximately 4am.
The men ripped out the lock from a van door to gain entry, and proceeded to steal tools and equipment, including welders, tile cutters, paslodes, Bosch drills, Stihl equipment and much more. The men then broke into a steel container containing more tools, which they also stole. Some of the items have be engraved with A.R.D or A Davis. Some of these engravings will not be in obvious places.
The tools were stolen from Mr Davis, who owns a building business, ARD Developments. Mr Davis and his wife were asleep in their home, while the thieves climbed over a fence, ran across a field, and broke in to his van and a steel container. The burglars then passed the stolen tools over a padlocked gate to individuals in a Landrover, which had been parked outside the gate at the entrance to the property. Mr Davies told the Ross Gazette that tools to the approximate value of £11,500 had been stolen. He said these were mostly power tools, and the thieves appeared to have been very selective in what they took; items that appeared to be older were left behind. Although he said the burglary has been stressful, he is determined to carry on and try to get back to normal. However, he said that the burglary has affected his wife a great deal, especially as the incident happened when they were asleep in their home while the burglars were in their garden, stealing their belongings. He said that they have not slept properly since the incident, and they regularly wake up in the night. One night, the couple thought they could hear drilling outside, but when Mr Davies went to investigate, he was unable to find anything.
The CCTV image shows the three men at the scene and a Landrover Discovery with an advertising circle on the front passenger side door. He added that the Landrover Discovery must be a newer model, as there is no wheel on the back.A message, publicising the burglary, was shared on the Ross-on-Wye Notice Board on Facebook by a member of the victim’s family, in the hope that raising awareness would lead to the capture of the men, or deter them from stealing elsewhere.
Mr Davis advises all residents to look at their security. He said before the burglary, he thought that his property was secure, as he has a padlocked gate at the entrance. "There's no harm in adding more locks," he told the Ross Gazette. He is now going to try to put in planning permission to Herefordshire Council to get higher, six-foot high gates at the entrance to the property. "You ca never have enough security," he said.
Mr and Mrs Davis, and the police ask that if anyone witnessed anything suspicious in the area at around the time of the incident, or if anyone is offered any tools that could be the ones that were stolen in this incident, to contact the police, by calling 101, and quoting the incident reference number: 85-S-100516.
