Ross-on-Wye fire crews called on Western Power Distribution for assistance when they dealt with a fire on Ledbury Road on June 30th.
The fire crew set up a cordon and safety officers waited to hand over the incident to WPD. They tweeted that underground cables were arcing.
A spokesperson for WPD told the Ross Gazette: “The fire crews thought that there must have been an electrical reason for the fire as it was in a perfectly straight line.”
He said when the crew from WPD arrived it looked as if it must be a fault under the surface however, when they checked there were no electrical cables in that area and it was simply a grass fire.
He added it is very unusual to see a fire of this type burn in a perfectly straight line.
