CHRIS and Carol Lowndes of Ross Old Books were delighted recently to discover their shop featuring in a German Calendar. How and why were even curiouser.
The calendar arrived with a letter, 'out of the blue', from a German gentleman. In his note Mr Horst Woll explained how the calender, produced by a German business, the British Shop, prompted him to write to Ross Old Books in 'the famous booktown of Ross-on-Wye'. The calender features scenes that are quintessentially British: red telephone boxes, horse guards etc.
Mr Woll appealed for Chris' and Carol's help in finding an out-of-print book, 'Celts in the Hellenic World.' He had tried many other places without success and Ross Old Books was his last chance. Of course, Chris and Carole did what they do best and tracked down a copy and sent it on to their very grateful German customer, who had 'nearly given up hope of getting a copy.'
