The award winning Phoenix Youth Group are performing their forthcoming productions at The Phoenix Theatre in mid October. The stage is set for a double dose of creative masterpieces.
The youth group is eager to show all of the talents within the group and have created opportunities where all its members will be able to shine by putting on two productions this season and giving as many children as they can a chance to show their talents. The group has 28 performers with ages ranging from eight - 18 years. They are very much hoping the local community will support both of the shows and they have priced tickets competitively at a very competitive rate in the hope that people will dig deep into their pockets and came to see both of the shows, as they are being performed on alternate nights at the theatre.
The group have chosen two classic performance pieces that compliment each other perfectly and are set in the wartime periods. Firstly, the much loved story of "The Railway Children", based on the original novel E Nesbit and adapted for the stage by Mike Kenny. The story tells of three children and their mother as they embark on a new life in the country and discover the delights of the railway along the way.
Their second performance piece is "Goodnight Mister Tom" by David Wood and adapted from the novel by Michelle Magorian. This is a sensitive and moving piece that tells of how a special bond forms between a young boy and his carer in a time of war and how this bond lasts a life time and brings new hope for both of them. Both of these plays and stories are much loved across the world and they hope you will enjoy their interpretations of these wonderful classic pieces.
Performance dates (See website for performance times): 12th, 14th and 16th October - The Railway Children. 13th, 15th and 17th October - Goodnight Mister Tom.
