Sparkling accessories and smart clothes were worn by the 120 pupils and special guests who attended the Walford Oscar Red Carpet Night on Thursday, March 22nd.

As well as the pupils who had created the Oscar winning short films, special guests included Frank Myers MBE who presented the Best Overall Film prize, and Councillor Paul Newman OBE, who presented the Hedgehog Movie Maker Award.

Green screen technology enabled youngsters to present educational messages from history, including the days of the Roman Empire, and they also tackled topics such as being kind to others. It was obvious that the pupils had really enjoyed making their films, and attending their very special awards evening which included a dinner prepared by members of the PTFA and a full programme of entertainment provided by the winners of the Walford’s Got Talent competition and the school choir.

Year 6 pupils, Alasdair, Rae, Arthur, Gracie and Daisy, the proud winners of Best Overall Film ‘Growth Mindset’ said: “We are thrilled to have won the Oscar for Best Film, it really is such a special honour. We loved working together and we didn’t give up, even when it got tricky.”

Headteacher, Louise George, said: “It is clear for all to see that this project has motivated and inspired every child in school, in all subject areas. Huge thanks to the PTFA for looking after us all so well – this very special evening would not be the great success it is without them!”
