The members of Peterstow WI began 2019 the way they had ended 2018 – with a musical meeting. However, this time it was on the theme of ‘Autoharp and Dulcimer Delight’.
Mike and Rachel Fenton, who are local musicians, certainly pleased the ladies with their melodic and tuneful repertoire. Beginning with the Vanderbilt theme tune the tone was set for the afternoon, with some audience participation in singing well-remembered tunes. One of the most haunting performances was called ‘Polly Swallow’, a composition inspired by a photo of a young Victorian fisherwoman. Mark also showed his skill with the Jews Harp and joined with Rachel in playing a courting dulcimer, interspersing music with short and humorous stories. Thanks were expressed to Mike and Ruth for an afternoon of enjoyment and for the atmosphere that they had created, which was certainly a ‘delight’.
Peterstow WI is a friendly, welcoming group who meet in Bridstow Hall, generally on the first Wednesday of the month at 2.30pm. Guests are welcome so if you would like to come along, or to find out more contact President Christine Bushell on 01989 730508.
