Members of the Ross and District branch of the Royal British Legion attended a short ceremony on Monday, June 17th to unveil a plaque on their planter box in Broad Street.
The latest addition to the planter, which is used as the focus for remembrance events throughout the year, is to honour former secretary, Margaret Jones.
The sturdy wooden structure, which is planted with seasonal flowers, was one of Margaret’s innovations when the families of those who gave their lives in the service of their country wanted a place to lay small crosses on Remembrance Day.
Branch chairman, Graham Aplin said Margaret’s name has been added to the plaques remembering other great friends of the branch. He said: “Margaret was a dear friend and a very good secretary.”
He added: “Margaret will always be with us, in our hearts and minds and thanks to the plaque on this Garden of Remembrance planter, she will be remembered through the seasons.”
The standard was carried by Derek Griffiths.
