As many readers realised the report in the March 29th edition of the Ross Gazette about the giant duck art installation on the River Wye was actually an April Fool.
The Gazette reported that a student from John Kyrle High School Sixth Form was planning to launch the giant inflatable in the summer to attract more tourists to the riverside and the town.
However, although many people realised very quickly that this was a joke, several readers commented on the Ross Gazette facebook page that they thought it would be a really good idea.
Jo Bridges Aubrey posted, “What a shame it’s that special day, as I believe it would be a fab addition to the river.” Shane Carlson entered into the spirit of the piece, he posted, “I hear that there’s a naming competition too! Ducky McDuckface? Quacky McQuackface? Billy McBillface? Answers on a postcard please...”
Martin Lown added, “Ridiculous - think of the huge bill!!” And Pauline Thompson posted, “Thats just quackers!!” although Margaret Smith posted, “Brilliant, love it.”
