Friday was a busy day for Ross Court Care Home residents when they welcomed ‘all creatures great and small’ to their garden. The residents also provided the exhibits for a show organised by former museum curator, and author, Avril Lansdell, and they celebrated the Best of British with a superb meal.
Animal guests included a shetland pony and a bearded dragon which fascinated many of the residents. The various owners spent time talking to the residents about their pets and allowed them to stroke them.
Mrs Janet Auty told the Ross Gazette:?“Our motto is that life doesn’t stop because you have changed address.” This was one of the reasons she encouraged Mrs Lansdell to organise the exhibition called We Did That.
This included many pieces created by the residents before they moved to Ross Court, as well as those which they have worked on since.
The dining experience for families, friends and neighbours was part of the national Care Home Open Day. Ross Court was just one of 70 Brighterkind care homes across the country participating in this annual event on June 17th.
Guests, including the Mayor of Ross Councillor David Ravenscroft, and the Mayoress Doreen Ravenscroft, enjoyed a Great British meal including locally produced cheeses, breads, salad vegetables and strawberries. And they had local cider or apple juice to drink. After the meal Ross Town Band played many popular tunes.
