Having emerged victors of their Round Robin 2009/10 Winter League, the Ross Seniors squad, now in the care of Ross Seniors Captain, Graham Chick kicked-off their Summer programme of friendly matches by welcoming their Cotswold Hills Golf Club counterparts to the Gorsley based club. With an abundance of spring flowers to greet them, the course looked a real picture and this made for a highly enjoyable and challenging occasion for all parties.
Graham and his playing partner, Seniors Vice Captain, Doug David set a perfect example by winning the opening fourball 5/4 and with Cec Wheatstone/Bob Cooper following this up by winning 3/2, the omens were not good at that stage for the visiting Skipper Rod Stoneman and his team. Success for the Cheltenham based club quickly arrived though with comprehensive wins for Arthur Ball/Andy Kirby 6/5 and Sam Collins/Dennis Barnard 5/4 to effectively level the match, but with the remaining Ross pairings all contributing positively to their team's scoresheet, this meant an ultimate Ross win by 5.5 points to 2.5 points. The match involving Don Punnett and Mick Pay for Ross typified the value of these occasions with a high quality contest played in a marvellous spirit involving 5 birdies and the match being decided with a 1 up win for the Ross pair, on the final green. There were also Ross wins for Peter Landau/Geoff Baker 2 Up, Peter Metcalfe/David Rees 1 up and a halved match involving Tim Rigden/Keith Ray.
