MADAM, What a wonderful day the Diamond Day turned out to be, after an initial shower even the weather was kind to us

After the very successful events in our Town for the Olympic Torch and the Jubilee Celebrations, the people of Ross-on-Wye have again turned up trumps

I would like to send my very heartfelt thanks to those people who helped make the Diamond Day celebrations in Hereford such a success. The Ross-on-Wye marquee looked resplendent and showed off the many things that Ross has to offer in the way of shopping and also the many community groups that help the residents of Ross, I am perhaps biased but I believe our Town's efforts exceeded many of the other displays

I thoroughly enjoyed showing Prince Philip what we have to offer and many people remarked on how welcoming the people manning the marquee were and I am sure we will have many visitors based on that experience.

Prince Philip took a real interest in the exhibits and spoke to most people in our marquee, in fact I think we overshot our allocated time with the Prince by almost double

There are far too many people to name individually but the organisations such as ART, Walkers are Welcome, Lions, Ross Cricket Club who volunteered exhibits to show off the town deserve a special mention.

And also all those people who got there so early to participate in the parade especially the youngsters should also be thanked. As should the staff of the Town Council who worked tremendously hard to pull everything together.

Mayor of Ross-on-Wye
