WINTER maintenance work to the A49 between Wilton roundabout and Peterstow will be carried out overnight between Monday, September 12 and Friday, September 16 forcing the closure of the road in both directions.

However, access to frontages and emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout.

A spokesperson for National Highways said that every effort is made to ensure the impact of the local community and travelling public is kept to a minimum and added: “We always aim to work to the programme, which includes litter picking, vertical cutbacks, gully works and hedge cutting, however unforeseen circumstances or adverse weather conditions may mean changes.”

The proposed diversion is 13 miles long and involves using the A4137 St Owen’s Cross to Whitchurch and the A40 to Walton roundabout.
