Neighbours of St Joseph’s Roman Catholic Primary School in Ross-on-Wye have come together in an attempt to solve the parking issues they are faced with which are caused by parents taking and collecting children from school.

As the start of a new term approaches, an Action Plan has been launched to tackle long-running and dangerous parking by parents of pupils at St. Mary’s RC School in The Avenue, Ross-on-Wye.

Local residents fear that children on foot who are having to cross the road between parked cars run a high risk of being hit.

An Action Plan spokesperson said: “Each day from 7.45am to 9.30am and from 3pm to 3.45 pm pupils arrive and depart. Many parents arrive early to ensure that they can find a place to park and then sit in their cars for some time with their engines running to provide heating in the winter and cooling in the summer. This causes congestion and blocked access."

Air pollution and damage to the pavements, kerbs and grass verges are other factors of concern. Plans are now being made for meetings with the police, local councillors and School headmistress, who has issued two notices appealing for ‘considerate parking’ in the school newsletter, with little effect.See the full story in this week’s edition of the Ross Gazette, or subscribe to our online edition here
