Hurricane Katya did not quite hit: but it was windy and slightly wet when the third Richard Grindon Memorial Trophy mixed doubles tournament, took place at Ross Tennis Centre.
A Round Robin start to the competition saw all the pairs fighting for a place in the semi finals. The competition was made extremely interesting by the windy conditions with players chasing balls all over the courts, some nifty footwork was required by all. There was extremely vocal support throughout the tournament as play was exciting to watch.
The semi finalists were Jane Chandler and Richard Jones, Jane Pepperell and Adam Barnard, Rosie Farr and Christian Porter, Sarah Drake and Dan Thomas. Some excellent tennis with strong serving had the spectators cheering their favourites on.
The final was a contest between Jane and Richard and Adam and Jane.
The spectators enjoyed a final with some strong hitting and deft touches, which was a tribute to their talents bearing in mind the conditions. The winners were Adam and Jane. The trophies were presented by Chris Friend.
