Year 3 pupils at Walford School visited Rome on Monday thanks to a group of parents and teachers who transformed the school hall into a Roman street. Groups of children were able to visit the baths, a shop and a school as well as making bulla, special necklaces which contained good wishes.

The children have been studying the Romans and made costumes for homework. They then spent the day working at different activities such as making coins to spend in the shop, using a mortar and pestle to grind petals and seeds into oil to make sweet smelling lotions to use in the Roman baths. They also spent time in the school learning simple phrases and numbers and then practised carving them onto the writing tablets they had made.

The pupils also helped chop vegetables to make a tasty soup which they were all going to share at a Roman banquet for lunch.

Year 3 teacher, Claire Weyman, said she was very grateful to the parents of her pupils who had also made costumes and spent the day working with the groups.
