MADAM, As an ex CAB volunteer, I have followed the comments regarding the presence of Citizens Advice in Herefordshire with interest.
Firstly I would like to say that since the closure of their offices in Gloucester Road, Ross, an attempt to continue to provide a service two mornings a week in Ross was made.
It is only through the persistence of two volunteers that CAB sessions have continued. My thanks for one go to these two stalwarts.
Secondly, I should like to point out that the CAB, is not the only agency providing information and advice in the town.
Age Concern, Ross-on-Wye has, for many years, provided a parallel appointment and drop in system, (albeit only for those 50+), to that of the CAB.
A team of trained volunteers is available up to five days per week. They are skilled at providing advice not only on employment, debt, benefits and other topics encompassed by CAB. but also they are able to tactfully deal with those matters which affect us as we mature.
This advice has been provided free of charge to the people and their concerned relatives from all over the UK and abroad, on a budget of virtually zero.
I personally would not like to see the total withdrawal of CAB from Ross.
I am however comforted that Ross-on-Wye would not be totally devoid of any advice and information support service.
