Former Ross girl Amy Jones successfully completed the Dublin Marathon on Monday, October 27th, in a very creditable time of 4 hours 11 minutes.
A keen runner since her university days, Amy regularly runs 10k events in and around London where she lives and works. She has also run several half marathons, including Reading, Norwich, Hereford, the Great South Run and the very popular Great North Run.
Having recently taken part twice in the Kingston-upon-Thames Breakfast Run, a 16 mile early morning event, which takes place in April and October, Amy decided it was time to have a go for a full marathon and she duly applied and was accepted for the Dublin one.
After several weeks of hard training Amy, with her family, flew to Dublin and, on Ireland's bank holiday Monday, along with some 12,000 other runners, set off in glorious weather, from Merrion Square where Oscar Wilde once lived, to attempt her first marathon. Cheered on by parents, brother, uncle and aunt, she finished well inside her anticipated time of four and three quarter hours.
Spurred on by her achievement, Amy now hopes to take part in the London Marathon next April, running for a charity.
