Amy Bamford is taking on a challenge of walking 100 miles to help Ross-based charity Hope support more young people like her daughter Lucy.

Her challenge is now in full swing, and she’s already smashed her target by raising almost £1,200.

Amy was diagnosed with multicentric breast cancer in March. The diagnosis was a shock for her family, but her main concern was how her children Dillon (12) and Lucy (9) would cope.

Dillon managed his feelings well, but Lucy needed some extra support.

Amy said: “Lucy’s school were excellent and provided additional support, but she needed more help. I spoke to our GP, the hospital and specialist nurses but there wasn’t anything available for a child of her age.

“I then found Hope, just one online self referral and Lucy had an appointment within days. Sue was amazing and she supported Lucy with her feelings and worries and gave her coping strategies.

“Without the help from Hope support I do not know what we would have done. As a parent you want to protect your children, and knowing that you are responsible for their sadness is horrible. Finding Hope meant I could help Lucy cope with her feelings.

“Help me raise money for Hope so they can continue to support children like Lucy and Mums like me.”
