The condition of the cobbled High Street in Ross-on-Wye, near to the junction with Wye Street and Edde Cross Street, has long been a cause for complaint for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.
Councillor Chris Bartrum has long campaigned for action from Balfour Beatty. He kept a diary of the many times he contacted them to ask for work to be done as it was causing a problems for those using the stretch of road.
Councillor Richard Mayo, who runs a business very near to the area, is also very aware of the issues it causes.
Finally after years of reporting and promises, action is at last being taken to deal with the ridges and potholes in the cobbled part of High Street.
Cllr Mayo told the Ross Gazette: “This road has been an issue ever since I was elected and I have had site meetings with cabinet members from Herefordshire council, locality stewards and several senior managers from Balfour Beatty. Now, with help from other local councillors and residents we have finally got some action.”
The road has been logged as a B2 priority which means that it should be actioned in the next eight weeks, It is likely that the road will be closed while the works are undertaken which could take anything up to a week.
Councillor Mayo added: “As I work right next to where the work will be done I will be monitoring it to make sure it is done properly.”
