Several residents have contacted the Ross Gazette upset about the state of the grass in public areas between Quarry Close and Oaklands in Ross-on-Wye.

Although the grass has been cut, the cut grass has just been left on the surface and one resident said: “It looks a real mess, it is an eyesore.”

He added it looks worse because the grass cut nearby by Herefordshire Housing is removed by the mowers and looks smart and tidy.

A spokesman for Herefordshire Housing told the Ross Gazette: “Balfour Beatty Living Places, working in partnership with Herefordshire Council, can confirm that the grass area between Quarry Close and Oaklands in Ross-on-Wye was cut by our sub-contractors.

“Six cuts per year are undertaken on amenity areas such as this one, and the clippings are left in situ unless it is a play area. This enables the water and nutrients within the clippings to be returned to the soil as they compost down.”
