After undergoing surgery in 2012, Janice, from Ross-on-Wye, was left feeling unhappy. She was 18 stone, unable to walk very far or do any activity, other than knitting or reading, without being out of breath.
It took her nearly six months to talk herself into doing something about it, eventually starting to diet and do some gentle exercise. In August 2013 her daughter persuaded her to try a gym workout and take part in some classes at her local Halo Leisure centre at Ross Swimming Pool.
Her first class was Aqua Aerobics, Janice remembers how nervous she felt about getting into a pool with so many people. Janice said: “I needn’t have worried, the class members were such a lovely friendly people, and the instructor was supportive from the start”.
Janice attended her Fitness Activity Plan in the gym and was worried about being on the exercise machines in front of other people. “I just know I would have to keep going if I was going to achieve my aims and tried to make sure I went at times when the gym would be quiet,” Janice explained.
Fours years later, aged 62, Janice is eight stone lighter, a whole lot fitter and enjoying going to the gym and taking part in group exercise. Janice is still attending Aqua Aerobics and the gym, and also enjoys- Indoor Cycling, TRX, Kettlebells, Pilates, Yoga and more.
Ian Scrivens, a Fitness Instructor who has worked with Janice in the gym, told the Ross Gazette: “Janice is a pleasure to work with, she takes advantage of the advice and guidance on offer and is stronger, fitter and healthier. There are all shapes, sizes, and abilities in our facilities - we are all friendly and welcome everyone.”
