MADAM, Accepting and acting on good advice is something we probably all find difficult to do at times. I was a Quaker in my youth (a long time ago!) and I still remember many of the old 'Advices' to which our attention was directed in Meetings for Worship, "not as a rule or form to walk by" but as a source of inspiration. They touched upon just about all areas of life. One which I thought particularly commendable included these words: "Show a loving consideration for all God's creatures."

It is incumbent upon Christians to do everything possible to avoid causing pain and suffering to animals. We may have varied individual conceptions of what is possible or impossible to avoid but one thing should be very clear; abusing animals for the purpose of sport or entertainment is not necessary and shows a lack of love for them and disrespect for the Almighty God who made them.
