Hunt supporters young and old met at Ye Hostelrie in Goodrich last Thursday, March 11th to remember when they met there 50 years ago. On March l1th in 1960, the Ross Harriers led by Mr T B Johnson met at the Hostelrie and there are pictures of the occasion still hanging in the pub.
Fifty years on Mr Johnson's daughter, Ann, who married Derek Baly, former Chairman of Ross Harriers, took part. Their son, John Baly is the current chairman.
Ross Harriers started nearly 200 years ago, in 1820 and is currently the third oldest Harrier pack in the country. The hounds are traditional stud book harriers that in 2008 won at hound shows at Peterborough and Honiton.
The current Master and Huntsman, who resides at kennels at Coughton is Simon Young, helped by whipper-in Martin Bingham from Longhope and Field Master Anna Ernsting from Whitchurch.
The active Supporters Club is headed up by Nick Jenkins from Llangarron. The Ross Harriers hunt, within the law, over country stretching from Michaelchurch in the north, to Kempley in the south and from Welsh Newton in the west to Woolhope in the east.
