The day of Ross Ladies Annual Christmas Golf |Competition and lunch dawned with the twin horrors of gale force winds and torrential rain, a combination that resulted in the match being cancelled. However the Lady Captain, Amanda Marshall, and her committee rose to the occasion and in its place presented the teams of three with another golfing challenge, a quiz that tested their knowledge of the rules of golf.

There was a feeling in some quarters that enduring the bad weather might have been an easier option! The competition was won in fine style by the 'A Team' comprising of the club President Di Honey, Pat Johnson and Jan Armstrong who managed to answer every question correctly.

The Ladies' Annual Christmas Lunch has a tradition of the Lady Captain and her committee providing various forms of festive entertainment for the delectation of the members; the subject is always a carefully guarded secret. This year, with the assistance of Julia Wilde, the members were delighted to receive a visit from the Weston under Penyard School choir accompanied by Mr Brian Bird and their music teacher Mrs Lucette Morris. The choir sang with gusto and the clubhouse was soon filled with the sounds of traditional Christmas carols. One of the highlights of the proceedings was a joint rendition of Silent Night in German by the choir and a number of Ross ladies.

The festive spirit was maintained as the 93 lady members sat down to a delicious Christmas lunch at beautifully decorated tables. In her speech Amanda thanked everyone who had helped to make the occasion so enjoyable but especially Sylvia Parker and Jenny Berrington for the flowers and Ian and Karen Needham for the splendid lunch.
