A SPECIAL flag was raised at various ceremonies to mark the beginning of Armed Forces Week.

In Ross-on-Wye members of the local district branch of The Royal British Legion were joined at the historic Market House by deputy Lord Lieutenant Paul Deneen, Councillor Linden Delves, mayor of Ross, Canon Freda Davies, and standard bearer Ian Hedges to raise the ceremonial flag.

Armed Forces Week is a chance to give thanks to the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community, from currently serving troops to service families, veterans and cadets.

The flag-raising events traditionally mark the start of a weeklong programme of public events.

Lord-Lieutenant of Herefordshire Edward Harley said:” The recent 80th anniversary of VE Day serves as a reminder of the importance of our Armed Forces.”
