On 25th November 2017, Nic Howes, who taught Geography at John Kyrle High School for over 30 years, led a group of his ex-students around the edgelands of Hereford.

This was the third field trip since the events were first organised in 2016. Starting at the Greenway Bridge in Rotherwas, the group were joined by Will Fracknall who had been heavily involved with the construction of the bridge back in 2013. After an insightful chat at the bridge, the group then went on to walk part of the Hereford City to Rotherwas Cycle Route, stopping at several points along the way including the ruins of the WW1 Royal Ordnance Factory, which supplied up to 70,000 bombs and explosive shells a week to the British Army.

The walk concluded at Watery Lane in Rotherwas, where the edgelands of Hereford merge into the countryside of Dinedor. To finish the day the group headed to The Shack Revolution where everyone was able to reflect on what they’d learnt throughout the day, catch up with each other and reminisce about the good old days at JKHS.

If you’d like to join the fourth field trip with Mr Howes, the event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 3rd 2018 in the Little Doward area of Symonds Yat. More details can be found on the Facebook group ‘Geography Field Trips with Mr Howes’
